Our first stop is at the harbour on the Northern shore of Loch Ness where we pick up a guided Jacobite tour boat which will take us on a one-hour tour of the Loch. The half-way point is by Urquhart Castle, a ruined fortification which sits on its commanding promontary on the loch. Time is allowed (one hour) to go round this fortification and the Historic Scotland Visitor Centre. Watch out for the Monster here as this is one of the favourite sighting points! Check your travel insurance covers damage caused by ancient Scottish loch monsters??? On our way to the James Pringle Woollen Mill and Tartan Centre, we drive through Inverness, pointing out the most well-known landmarks of this lovely City. At James Pringle Weaver, the oldest mill in the Highlands (established in 1798), fine tweeds and tartans were woven for over 200 years. Now a small weaving museum, you can find out more about tartans, kilts which you may wear ..... and maybe you will even get the answer to that very old question ....?? A good place to find examples of your family's tartans. Also a great place for shopping whether for yourself or for your family and friends - taking a little piece of the Highlands back with you...Finally, time is also allowed here to have your lunch in the Mill coffee shop/restaurant. Our next stop is Culloden Battlefield which is the site of the last major battle which took place on British soil (1746) between armies commanded by the romantic Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Duke of Cumberland. This is a site managed by NTS Scotland, and there is an excellent exhibition centre (optional fee - see below), coffee shop and book shop. Our final stop is the nearby fascinating Cairns of Clava an ancient burial ground dating back to about 2000BC, comprising various huge cairns & standing stones. Tour Notes
